January 2016 Minutes

JANUARY 7, 2016

PRESENT: Officers – Ed Albrecht, Jennifer Bercy, Joy Gelb, Karmen Brower.
Directors – Aaron Scott, Stephen Holzer, Lucy Martin, Emma Wilby, Rita Gever, Brett Gever, Katie Whitman, Richard Woolard, Keith Zajic.
Honored Guests: Richard Cassel, Peter Valk, Merideth Hasson, Barbara and Brian Seery, Larry Mizrahi, Bernia Richard.

  1. Call to order at 7:08 PM
    1. Approval of minutes of November, 2015 moved by Emma Wilby, seconded by Rita Gever, and approved unanimously.
    2. Approval of minutes of December, 2015 moved by Rita Giver, seconded by Joy Gelb, and approved unanimously.
  2. Self-introductions were done, agenda was approved unanimously.
  3. Council Report – none, no council member present.
  4. Officer Reports
    1. President – Ed Albrecht reported that the last year has been an attempt to improve communications with residents, and increase membership.
      The golf tournament didn’t happen, but we’re still going to try to have community activities.
      He thanks members for a good year, and hopes for a better 2016.
    2. Vice President – No report.
    3. Treasurer – Joy Gelb reported our financial condition. Acceptance of her report was moved by Aaron Scott, second by Jennifer Bercy, and passed without objection.
    4. Secretary – No report.
  5. There was no quorum for the December meeting which was our general election meeting, so it was put off until January. However, the election slate was not organized as there was some confusion about who was to do it and how.
    Aaron Scott, Lucy Martin, and Richard Woolard were nominated by Keith Zajic, seconded by Jennifer Bercy to take charge of the election for the February meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
  6. Realtor Report – Aaron Scott provided his usual report of the area market. He reports that 9 properties are on the market with 2 new. The 4th quarter was somewhat slow, and a number of properties had price reductions.
  7. Commission Reports – None.
  8. New Business – None.
  9. Old Business
    1. Ross Morgan as tracking agent was thought to be too expensive at the moment, and should be investigated more thoroughly.
    2. The approval of the dues increase to $25/year was moved by Jennifer Bercy, seconded by Richard Woolard, and carried with a vote of 10 yeas, and 1 nay.
    3. Development of Wild Walnut Park has been approved with child and environmentally friendly play equipment. There is special fund money available to pay for these improvements, as well as a few others that might be contemplated. More to come on those.
    4. Spring picnic, e. welcome committee, f. neighborhood discount for security systems were thought to best be discussed in a committee composed of those who are interested in developing these and other ideas for creating greater visibility for GMHA within the community.
      A committee of interested parties was scheduled to meet at Gelsons coffee bar on January 12, at 6 PM. Everyone is welcome to come and contribute.
  10. Public Comment – Lucy Martin announced that the Rotary is holding a bingo Sunday on the afternoon of January 31st. $35/person purchases 3 cards for 10 games, a box lunch, and an afternoon of fun at Founders Hall.
    Also the Savvy Seniors Speakers Series is on January 29, February 19, and March 11 at Founders Hall. Tickets are $20/person for each event.
